I love music just as much as I love art but I could never be a music teacher.
1) I'm not really one to get soppy but kids singing gets me always gets me teary. (Ok - well only when it's good).
2) I could never be anywhere near as good as this guy.
Anyway - you probably know about this New York choir of fifth graders who are singing at next week's Oscars but I thought I'd post this to prove my point. Thomas Mars from the band Phoenix apparently said he cried when he saw this so I feel a little better.
Not only are they amazing but they have an absolutely inspirational teacher with great taste in music. Look for their videos of songs by The Cure, Tom Waits, Fleetwood Mac, MGMT, Black Sabbath and more. Dare I say it - they even make Lady Gaga and Katy Perry songs sound good.
Here's the link to the PS22 Chorus blog so if you're like me and you only heard about them today you can check them out! http://ps22chorus.blogspot.com/
Teaching is a difficult job - I don't care what anyone else says. I created this blog to record some of the little things children do every day that make me laugh and remind me why I love being a teacher.

Colouring-In Smackdown
One day before school last year, one of my grade ones came running to me with an envelope with my name written on it. When I got back to my room and opened it up I found this folded up inside. I love it! Despite what it says at the bottom, this is not a depiction of me (I hope). I'm not sure what it was about this colouring page that he thought would appeal to me but nonetheless I love the minimal colouring with attention to lipstick. I believe this guy might be a wrestler but I'm not sure. The guy has one thick neck.

Clown With Chainsaw and Gun... |
This was supposed to cheer me up because I was upset about seals being slaughtered in Canada. Violent depiction of a zebra being shot - drawn for me by a little girl shortly after me telling my grade one students why zebras are an endangered species during this zebra project. |
